Yes it is. Just about three weeks from now we start that personal hell that is NaNoWriMo. On November 1st, writers all over the globe will fire up their computers, their typewriters (old farts) or sharpen their pencils (stone age cavemen) and begin writing what they are sure will be the next great novel.
NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. I’m sure that over 90% of the population didn’t even know there was such a month. The whole idea is to set a goal of xx number of words to write during the month of November and starting at midnight on the first, begin pulling your hair out because the creative well will have mysteriously dried up.
The standard goal is 50,000 words by the end of November, which would give you about half the usual word count for a novel. That works out to a little less than 1700 words a day. That’s easy. I can write that in an hour. Even at the slow, plodding pace of 30 words per minute you can blow past that milestone.
My goal is to double the standard 50,000 words and shoot for 100,000 words. I will be writing Wicked Rising, the first novel in The Chronicles of Wyndweir series. Reaching my goal will give me a completed first draft.
Right now I am going to spend the next three weeks outlining the story and also finishing The Journals of Sigarick. Look for that at Amazon sometime next month.
So, that is what awaits me in November. You can follow my progress here by watching the little icon on the right side of the page.
Wish me luck.
