Well, it’s been one long month and it had to come to an end sometime. I’ve put that final period on the last sentence of this year’s NaNoWriMo novel, Wicked Rising. As I said before 100,000 words wasn’t going to get the story told. I have at least another 20,000 words to write. Hopefully I’ll have that done by the end of the week, maybe two weeks.
Then I’m going to let the book sit and marinate for a couple of weeks before I jump into the editing and rewriting. I am still looking forward to having it ready to publish by early summer of 2017.
Then there is always the other two NaNoWriMo month-long challenges to look forward to. April and July are just a few months away.
Here is the final screenshot of my month’s work at the NaNoWriMo website.
Garlan begins to realize that the dark wizard is finding it difficult to fight his war on two fronts, in the real world and in the mind of the comatose wizard. And Pendivall has now found out who is behind their troubles in the northern lands.
One morning the army awakens to find the sky is filled with dragons. These are the older, more experienced dragons coming to join in the fight.
Just a couple more days to go for NaNoWriMo and I should hit 100,000+ words. But, as I said earlier, it appears that this novel is going to take at least another 20,000 words to complete. Should be interesting.
Garlan uses his mind sight to seek out his love and finds she is otherwise occupied. He leaves her and gets a good night’s sleep and when he awakens in the morning, he finds he has a new bodyguard. One who won’t take “no” for an answer when he says he doesn’t need one.
The dark wizard invades the mind of the wizard in the coma and finds out that this wizard is more than a match for him, even in a coma. This wizard can even cast from inside their coma, and even though the fireballs are invisible to the dark wizard’s dragon, he can certainly feel them.
Makes the dark wizard wonder what in the world is going on.
Tragedy strikes the group as the enemy troops prove more formidable than thought. One of our heroes is killed, one is put into a coma and one is injured and out of commission. The dark wizard is taking personal delight in the destruction and even laughs in Garlan’s face.
The dark wizard even attacks the one wizard that has entered into a coma, attacking their mind.
Agoroth leaves the battlefield to tend to an old friend.
And someone finds that they know the identity of the dark wizard and they are devastated when it is revealed. They realize that they were the ones that started this whole journey into war.
Another day, another scene of mayhem. On hearing of the destruction of one of the southern villages, Claudious leaves with a small group of soldiers to see what the condition of the troops are down in that area.
While he is on his journey to the south, the rest of the wizards and leaders prepare the army to head back into the Eastern Desert. More Guildenians have shown up and Garlan and Sigarick are beginning to feel good about their chances of ending this war before it has much of a chance of getting started.
Oh, and the ancient right of pairing has taken place and it took a giant, white dragon to spill the beans to the entire gathering.
As you can see, I’ve just crossed the 70,000 word mark. Getting to 100,000 is a bit of a long shot, but I’m not giving up yet. One thing I’m seeing though is that this story may not be finished without getting closer to 120,000. We’ll have to wait and see.
I have crossed the 50,000 word mark (actually three days ago) and now NaNoWriMo starts validating those that have reached that goal. That is great and all, but my goal is 100,000 words and a completed first draft of this novel. I am sitting at just over 60,000 words and I am hitting the good part of the story, so it should start moving right along.
So, on to the next 40,000 words!
Now, let’s see. How much to tell you?
Okay, after reaching Rosemoor, plans are put in motion to send another group, a larger group, into the Eastern Desert and find this dark wizard and see if the war can be stopped before it even starts.
But, it seems the war has already started in two other places, which the group in Rosemoor is about to find out.
Oh, and Garlan is reunited with an old “friend.”
So, where did we leave off? Oh yes, Claudious is in trouble, Agoroth is in trouble and Pendivall is in big trouble. After getting Pendivall squared away, Garlan and his group leave Guilden to head back to Rosemoor.
Along the way Garlan decides to take a trip through his nightmare again and just about kills everyone around him. With Blaze, his father’s sword. But, a young apprentice saves everyone and a beautiful Guilden healer, decides to get to the bottom of Garlan’s dream.
Garlan learns that an old friend has been attacked along with his group and is in need of Garlan’s assistance. The problem: They are over a day away. Garlan leaves Guilden with a group in a race to get to his friend before it is too late.
Claudious has taken a group of men into the Eastern Desert to see what he can find out about the dark wizard. With Agoroth at his side, they find the Eastern Desert is even more dangerous than they first thought. Coming face-to-face with the dark wizard proves to be costly and they learn no more about him than originally known except that he is exceptionally powerful.
Garlan took another little trip with his mind, searching out Marnell, only to find someone getting a little too close to her. If he wasn’t a couple hundred miles away on an important mission there would be trouble.
As for the trouble up north, Garlan figures the last thing Wyndweir needs is to be fighting a war on two fronts. But, it just might come down to that.
He has also figured out a way to try and discern the identity of this new dark wizard. It will just take time and that is running out quite quickly.
